Instead of using our free migration service, you can easily migrate your WordPress website yourself. You can either copy your site's data manually via FTP and database management or use a plugin such as Migrate Guru.
To migrate using a plugin, simply install the plugin on the source site as well as on the destination box and initiate the migration directly from there. The process loads an identical copy of your site into a Box of your choice without making any changes or downtime on your live site.
How to complete the migration with Migrate Guru:
Step 1: Adjust the Box configuration
For your Box to run under the same conditions at Raidboxes as the source site on your old system, you first need to adjust two settings for your Box:
All these settings can be adjusted directly in the Box.
⚠️ Important: You need to have a Box ready when you start preparing for the migration. This is the first and most important step in the migration. If you don't yet have a target Box ready, please create a new Demo Box now.
The WordPress version
To avoid problems with the WordPress version of the site after migration, choose the same WordPress version for the new Box that runs on your current live site.
When you create a new Box for the migration, you can choose from the three most recent WP versions:
If you want to upgrade to the latest WordPress version for your Box, you can select it directly in the Box settings under WordPress > WordPress version.
💡 Tip: You can find the currently installed WordPress version of your source site on the dashboard in the At a Glance module.
The PHP version
You can update the PHP version of your Box at any time in your Box settings in the submenu PHP > PHP version. Click on Update to confirm.
💡 Tip: You can find the PHP version of your source page under the Tools/Site Health menu item on the Info tab in the Server section.
Step 2: Install Migrate Guru
Log in to the WordPress dashboard of your current live site and download the plugin Migrate Guru under Add Plugins.
⚠️Important: You must perform this step on both the source page and your Box.
Step 3: Initiate the migration
After launching Migrate Guru, you'll need to confirm on both sides that the plugin is active everywhere.
In the next step, you'll need the migration key to link the pages together:
In your Destination Box at the top, click the Copy Key button.
Go to the source page, enter the key there, and click Validate Key.
Next, enter your email address and check the overview one more time to make sure the correct source page (Old Site) and the correct box (New Site) are listed.
Then click Initiate Migration to start the migration. You will receive a message in your browser and a confirmation email once the migration has been successfully completed.
Step 4: Enter the Box details
The database prefix
In the final step, you'll need to adjust the table prefix for the box. WordPress can only correctly read and display your content if this prefix matches exactly the prefix in the migrated database.
You can change the table prefix for your Box database at any time in the Box settings under the WordPress > WP Table Prefix submenu.
⚠️ Important: This step does not change the prefix of the tables in your Box's database; rather, it changes the database prefix specified in the wp-config.php file. This allows WordPress to access the correct tables in the database.
💡Tip: You can find the table prefix for your source page under the Tools/Site Health menu item on the Info tab in the Database section.
