๐Ÿ‘‰ You should create a manual backup of your box before changing the PHP version to be on the safe side. If you have a highly frequented site, you can also test the new PHP version in a cloned box beforehand.

You can change the PHP version of your WordPress site at any time in the settings of your box.

  • To do this, first click on Settings in your Raidboxes dashboard

  • and then on PHP and then on PHP version.

  • You can now choose between all available PHP versions via the drop-down menu.

  • Simply select the desired PHP version and then click on Save version. The change will take effect immediately.

๐Ÿ’ก We intentionally do not update your PHP version automatically, as older plugins and themes may have problems with higher PHP versions. Conversely, current plugins and themes often require a minimum version and are therefore not compatible with older PHP versions.

Before changing the PHP version, you should therefore check which PHP version you need. You can always find this information in the respective plugin and theme stats. Then always select the highest possible PHP version.

Test your box carefully after upgrading the PHP version. In the event of incompatibilities, you can simply reset the version or restore your manual backup if necessary. If you have any questions, simply contact us in the live chat.

Why an up-to-date PHP version makes sense.

An up-to-date PHP version in WordPress ensures better performance, higher security and access to modern functions that are used by many themes and plugins. However, it doesn't always have to be the very latest version, as some extensions need time to become fully compatible with completely new PHP releases.

What is PHP?

PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) is a server-side scripting language developed specifically for web development. It is often used to generate dynamic content on websites, as is the case with WordPress installations.
