We are very excited to announce the launch of our new server infrastructure Raidboxes 2.0 🎊 In this article we explain what's important for the launch day of Raidboxes 2.0, how you can benefit from the new servers as quickly as possible and what changes you can expect.

Advantages of the Raidboxes 2.0 infrastructure

Increased performance

  • Significant performance boost for all newly created or already migrated Boxes.

  • Doubling of resource allocation on the new server structure:

    • Starter and Fully Managed Boxes run with 2 cores and 4 GB RAM

    • Pro Boxes with 4 cores and 8 GB RAM

Improved security

  • Introduction of DDoS protection to defend against attacks

  • New Exploit Detector checks new pages for suspicious scripts and files

  • New Raidboxes Security Shield automatically protects each box with a web application firewall

Scalability and flexibility

  • Advanced configuration options for growing business needs

  • Simple scaling: plan changes between Mini and Pro plans are seamless and possible without cloning - i.e. without changing IP addresses

Further advantages of the Raidboxes 2.0 infrastructure

  • The dedicated staging environment no longer shares resources with the live site - a live push of your changes is still possible with one click.

  • The new infrastructure supports .htaccess files - this allows you to customise, e.g. redirects and directory protection. (Help Center article)

  • Better performance in the WP dashboard: Thanks to further optimisations, we were able to make the WordPress dashboard load up to ten times faster than before.

  • With the Varnish Cache, we have a powerful cache that works before the actual web server and can therefore increase the load tolerance of the website - especially for highly frequented pages.

  • With advanced caching , only the edited page is cleared from the cache - there is no longer a complete cache purge. This is a great advantage, especially for large sites and shops.

👍 Especially important for you: Prices will not change with the introduction of the new data center. The tiered prices for customers and the partner discounts for agencies also remain unchanged.

Important events and schedule

Go-live of the new infrastructure

  • April 2024: Official launch of the Raidboxes 2.0 infrastructure for all customers: Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes will be created on the new infrastructure from 09.04.2024 at 09:00 a.m.

Migration phase 1

  • Q2 2024: Start of the migration of existing Boxes (Mini to Pro) that are exclusively connected to domains whose DNS records are managed by us.

  • As these migrations are managed entirely by us, this means no additional work for you.

Migration phase 2 (from August 2024)

  • The second migration wave affects Boxes (Mini to Pro) that do not exclusively use domains managed by us.

  • We will keep you up to date on the exact process by email and via the Raidboxes dashboard.

  • You can find numerous instructions on the topic of DNS changes for special domain providers such as Strato, IONOS, etc. in the corresponding HelpCentre article.

Migration phase 3 (from October 2024)

  • The third migration wave affects our High Traffic Boxes from the Pro XL plan and upwards.

  • Since September 23, new Boxes from the Pro XL plan and upwards are being created on the new infrastructure.

💡 From the go-live, you can already clone your existing Boxes yourself and benefit from the above-mentioned advantages at an early stage. That way, you do not have to wait for the managed migrations. 🚀

Raidboxes 2.0 FAQ

1. What does the new Raidboxes 2.0 server infrastructure include?

Raidboxes 2.0 brings a significant performance boost by doubling resources for Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes, improved security features such as DDoS protection, a new Exploit Detector and the Raidboxes Security Shield.

2. When was Raidboxes 2.0 launched?

The launch took place on April 9, 2024, at 09:00 a.m. with a go-live, from which all new Boxes (Mini to Pro tariff) from all customers will automatically benefit from the advantages. Existing Boxes will be moved in various migration phases. Since September 23, Pro XL Boxes and upwards are also available on the new infrastructure.

3. What does the migration mean for my existing projects?

In the first migration phase, we will migrate Boxes that are exclusively linked to Raidboxes domains. We will inform you separately about the second and third migration phases. From Go Live, you can migrate your existing Boxes (Mini to Pro) to the new server structure yourself by cloning them.

4. How can I migrate my domain to Raidboxes and what are the benefits?

Moving your domains to Raidboxes qualifies your Boxes for the first automatic migration phase. This will save you the work of manually updating your DNS settings.

5. Will the prices change with Raidboxes 2.0?

No 😃 The prices remain unchanged, including tiered prices and Partner discounts.

6. What happens if my Boxes do not exclusively use Raidboxes domains?

There will be a second wave of migration (phase 2), which we will inform you about. This affects Boxes (Mini to Pro) that are not directly connected to Raidboxes domains. All Boxes in the ProXL to EnterpriseXL plans will be migrated in phase 3.

7. Will the new features automatically be available for migrated projects?

Yes, after the migration, your Boxes will automatically benefit from the improved server resources and the new security features.

9. What about my ProXL to EnterprixeXL Boxes?

All Boxes from the ProXL plan onwards will be migrated in the third migration phase - regardless of whether they are connected to Raidboxes domains or not. The start of phase 3 migrations is scheduled for October 2024.

10 What about Starter and Fully Managed Boxes with PowerUp?

PowerUp is no longer necessary on the new infrastructure, as Starter and Fully Managed Boxes are automatically equipped with twice the resources. The PowerUp is therefore already active there.
