Starting in April you'll have the option to start upgrading your websites to our brand new servers. The Boxes will receive significantly more resources and benefit from a whole range of new security features.

The first automated bulk migration starts in June 2024. In Phase 1 we'll upgrade all Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes that only use domains which use the Raidboxes nameservers.

ℹ️ No preparation or follow-up work is required for these upgrades.

Phase 1 upgrades are fully automated

In the first phase of server upgrades, we only migrate Boxes whose domains are fully managed by us.

Therefore, the migrations are fully automated. You don't have to make any adjustments to your domains or make any preparations 😊

When it's clear when your Boxes will be upgraded, you will receive an email from us telling you exactly which projects will be moved and when.

The upgrade process in detail

ℹ️ Automated bulk migrations for Phase 1 start in June and affects all Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes that are exclusively connected to domains using the Raidboxes nameservers.

And this is how the phase 1 upgrades work:

  • We notify you in advance by email about the Boxes and the migration timeframe

  • We clone your site from the current server to the new data center. To do this, our system creates a backup of your Box and clones it into a new one. There will be a brief downtime during this step.

  • Once the migration is complete, we set up a domain proxy. This ensures that your site remains reachable during the domain changeover.

  • We then change the DNS settings of your domains so that they resolve directly to the new Box

  • Finally, you will receive a success message by email

⚡️ If the migration fails, the site will remain accessible on the old servers as normal. The migration will then be repeated at a later date.

All Raidboxes Dashboard features will work as usual on the new Box.

FAQ

How do I find out if my box will be upgraded in Phase 1?

In phase 1, we upgrade all Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes whose domains are managed exclusively by Raidboxes. Specifically, the domains' nameservers have to be the Raidboxes nameservers.

You can check the nameserver settings of your domains via the DNS settings tab in your domain overview.

💡 If one of the domains you have connected to your box does not use the Raidboxes nameservers, the Box will not be upgraded in Phase 1. Instead, it will be moved in the second migration phase.

If you are unsure about your nameserver status, just write to us 😊 We can tell you exactly how your boxes and domains have been configured.

How do I find out exactly which boxes will be upgraded and when?

A few days before the upgrade, you will receive an email from us with all the details. It'll list the exact Boxes that will be upgraded and the corresponding timeframes.

Will there be a downtime during the upgrade?

Yes, your Box will experience a brief downtime during the upgrade. Depending on the size of the website, this may last from a few moments to minutes.

What happens to projects that are not upgraded in Phase 1?

Mini, Starter, Fully Managed and Pro Boxes that use external domains will be migrated in the second migration phase. All the details on Phase 2 can be found in the article Raidboxes 2.0 - Phase 2 migrations.

High Traffic Boxes, i.e. Boxes in the Pro XL, Business, Business XL, Business XXL and Enterprise plans, will be upgraded in Phase 3 later this year.
