Starting in the third quarter of 2024 we'll be upgrading Boxes that use external domains to our new servers.
External domains are domains whose DNS settings are not managed by Raidboxes. For example, if your domain is hosted with IONOS or if you use Cloudflare, it is considered an external domain.
To avoid downtimes after upgrading your Boxes, we will set up a domain proxy for at least 14 days after the migration. It forwards requests to your old Box directly to the new one, even if you have not yet updated your domain settings.
ℹ️ We also use the domain proxy setup for domains that are managed by us. That way we can make sure that your Boxes will not be impacted by DNS changes after Phase 1 migrations.
Why do the domains need to be updated at all?
The domain changes are necessary because the IP address of your Box changes during the upgrade. It also receives a so-called IPv6 address. To ensure that your Box remains accessible after the domain proxy expires, you must adjust the A and AAAA records of your domains accordingly.
The domain proxy ensures that you have at least 14 days after the migration to make these DNS adjustments. It therefore ensures that your box remains temporarily accessible even without the DNS changes.
What can I do if the 14 days are not enough?
Even with sufficient preparation, something can of course come up and the 14 days for the domain update may not be enough. If this is the case, just contact our support team. We can extend the duration of the proxy setup accordingly 😊
⚠️ We will inform you about all migration steps by email several weeks in advance.
