You would like to verify your domain or your website in Google Search Console, but you are not sure which method to use? Don't worry, we have summarized the two most common methods for you and explain step by step how to proceed.
Different methods
There are several ways to confirm the ownership of your website.
Domain ownership via DNS records
Upload HTML file
Insert HTML tag in header
Google Analytics tracking code
Google Tag Manager
We'll focus on the first two in this article - they are the most common and effective:
01. domain ownership via DNS records
💡 Tip: Even if the procedure sounds a little complex at first - domain ownership via DNS records is usually the fastest and easiest method - especially if your domain is registered with us.
When you would like to register a property of the domain type in Google Search Console, the verification using a DNS record of the TXT type is suggested to you. In the following we will go through this process.
Copy the code from Google, which you can find at point 3 in the popup.
Log in to your Raidboxes dashboard or to your domain provider where you registered the domain of interest.
Navigate to the domain you want to confirm and go to DNS management.
Click on "Add record"
Now create a TXT record with the code provided by Google Search Console.
💡 Depending on the domain provider, you have to add an "@" sign or a "*" sign to the Host or Subdomain field, or you can leave the field empty - like at Raidboxes for example.Click on "Create" to save the entry.
💡 DNS changes can take a few hours, but usually you should be able to successfully click "Confirm" on Google within a few minutes.

02. Confirm website ownership with HTML file
Download the HTML verification file from Google Search Console.
Connect to your website server via FTP using the FTP client of your choice (e.g. the free FileZilla (external link)).
Upload the HTML file to the main or root directory of your website. This is the folder "wordpress".
You should be able to verify your website in Search Console directly afterwards by clicking on "Confirm".
More about FTP at Raidboxes can be found here (HelpCenter).
