Step 1: Activate the Box
Since a subdomain Multisite is set up on its own domain, the Box must be activated in the first step. Click on the orange banner at the top of the Box Dashboard to start the process.
Step 2: Connect domain / configure displayed domain
Once your Box is active, you now have to configure the displayed domain. You can adjust this in the Box Dashboard under Domains. Click on the icon next to Displayed domain.
Step 2.1 Link your domain and Box
Once you've entered a domain, it needs to be linked to the Box. The procedure is identical for single sites and Multisites. An A-record must be set with the Box IP in the domain's DNS records.
The following articles explain how to link your domain and Box:
Note: You can also make the DNS entries for the planned subdomains in this step. You have to set up an A-record with the Box IP for each subdomain or subsite.
Step 3: Add subdomain(s)
Now it's time to add the subdomains of the desired subpages. Click Add subdomain (1) in the Domains section and enter one subdomain at a time. In this example, I want to set up the subdomains for multilingualism and add the subdomains de and es.
If you didn't make the DNS entries for the subdomain in the earlier step 2.1, you will need to do it now.
Step 3.1 Activate SSL
Once everything is configured and the DNS settings are successfully recognized, our example looks like this:
Now you can activate SSL for all the entered domains. Go to the Settings tab of the Box and set the SSL toggle to on.
Step 4: Create Multisite subpages
Now all the domains are linked, in the next step we create the subsites of the Multisite. Click on Go to Multisite settings in the Box Dashboard (2 on the screenshot above).
Click on the + icon (create entry). A modal opens and we select the subdomain for which the subpage is to be created and click on the Create website button.
Please note: It can take up to five minutes for our system to set up the redirects
Create your subsites (from the WordPress Dashboard)
In Step 1 we had created our new subsites from the Raidboxes Dashboard. As an alternative, you can add new subsites directly from the WordPress dashboard. To do so, got to your Network Admin --> Sites. Click the Add New Button or the menu item to create a new subsite.
As a last step, you have to add the new subdomain as a secondary domain to the Box's domain settings like we did in Step 3
The newly added website will also show up in the list of websites in your Multisite settings in the Raidboxes dashboard a few moments later..
