You can only download backups of Boxes from the Starter plan and above. If you're working with a Mini Box and want to download a backup, you first need to upgrade to the Starter plan. Simply contact our support team for help with an upgrade.
Log in to your Raidboxes account and go to the Backups tab in your Box.
Please note the processes for downloading automatic backups (incremental backups) and manual backups (full backups) are different.
There are three steps involved in downloading an automatic backup of your Box:
1. Request the backup
Click on the download button next to the chosen backup in the backup overview of your Box.
Why do I need to request a backup? I just want to download it!
Our automatic backup system creates incremental backups. First, the data has to be merged into a complete backup file before you can download it. Depending on the size of your Box, this take can take 20 to 30 minutes.
2. Wait for the backup link
We'll email you as soon as your backup is ready to download. The waiting time depends on the size of your Box.
3. Download the backup
When the complete backup file is ready, you'll receive an email from us containing a download link (Download now button). Click on this link to start the download. A window will appear showing the progress of the download. As in step 2, the download time depends on the size of the backup file.
The download link is valid for 24 hours. If you don't manage to use the link within this time, you can simply generate a new link by repeating steps 1 and 2.
The backup of your Box will be made available to you as a compressed tar.gz file. This file format is a compressed archive file. The name of this file may appear rather cryptic, for example:
When the download is finished, you'll find the backup file in your local downloads folder.
I haven't received the email with the download link, what do I do now?
If you've waited a while and haven't received an email from us, this doesn't usually indicate an issue.
Possible blacklist or greylist settings or a spam filter can prevent the email from being delivered. In this case, please try to have another email sent to you (as described in step 1) and check your spam folder.
If you still haven't received an email after repeating these steps, please contact our support team.
How to download a manual backup
Once a manual backup has been created, you can start the download by clicking on Download backup in the Actions column.
A window will open showing the progress of the download. The download time depends on the file size of the backup.
The backup of your Box is made available to you as a compressed tar.gz file. Example:
When the manual backup file has finished downloading, you'll find it in your local downloads folder.
