Migrate mailbox with external DNS management

Learn how to migrate your mailbox to our new mail servers using external DNS management.

You can now independently migrate mailboxes from domains that don't use Raidboxes nameservers.

When is this the case?

  • The domain is hosted by an external provider.

  • DNS management is handled by a CDN (e.g. Cloudflare).

Since our system doesn't have access to your DNS settings in these cases, the necessary entries for the new mail servers aren't set automatically. Therefore, the DNS entries must be manually updated with your provider before the migration.

Start migration

To begin, first set the mailbox passwords and then click Start Migration.

Set DNS entries

The following overview shows you which DNS entries need to be entered to start the migration. Log in to your domain provider and enter the listed DNS entries. Also make sure that there are no duplicate entries.

Then click on Check DNS again. Note on waiting time: Please note that it can take several hours for DNS changes to be updated worldwide. The status check may therefore not immediately show the correct result.

๐Ÿ’ก In our Help Center, you will find a collection of DNS adjustments for common providers. If you are unsure whether the entries are correct, simply contact our support team with a screenshot of your DNS settings.

Once the status check gives a positive response, you can hit Confirm DNS & Continue Migration:

The email data is now being copied to the new mail servers. You can track the progress of the migration via the migration status:

Post migration

Your mailboxes are now located on our new email servers. ๐ŸŽŠ Since you already set the new password for your mailboxes at the beginning, you can log in directly to the Raidboxes webmailer and find all your email data there.

Of course, you can also start following up immediately and update your email programmes or SMTP plugins that are linked to your mailbox.
